The project aims to explore the resources and contributions of elderly individuals to their local communities in Greenland. As the elderly population in Greenland grows, it’s crucial to establish a welfare system that supports their health in tater years. The research question delves into how the elderly’s resources are perceived and experienced, and how they can be integrated into community development and maintenance.
The methodology involves ethnographic fieldwork in the town of Sisimiut and the nearby village of Sarfannguit, focusing on seniors living at home and participating in their daily routines. Additionally, semi-structured interviews and sharing circles will be employed to gather data from the elderly, other community groups, and professionals. This data will undergo thematic analysis.
The project’s objective is to pinpoint and promote positive elements aiding individuals, local communities, and organizations to flourish. It also seeks to prevent seniors from feeling marginalized and lonely, as their experiences, knowledge, skills, and culture are invaluable to society. The project’s findings will be showcased in an exhibition, serving both as a medium for dissemination and an intervention to boost community development.
