Project description:

Many hunters in Greenland are increasingly observing parasites in meat from caribou and muskoxen. This raises concerns, as these animals are an important part of diet, culture, and income.

The project investigates which parasites are present in the meat of caribou and muskoxen in West Greenland. By identifying the parasites, researchers can better understand how they spread and whether they may pose a risk to humans and animals.

At the same time, the project works closely with hunters, authorities, and researchers to develop future monitoring of diseases in Greenland’s ecosystems. Hunters already contribute with samples and knowledge based on their field observations.

The project will also communicate knowledge to the public through information materials, teaching, and presentations, helping both hunters and citizens better understand and manage parasites in wild meat.

In the long term, the project aims to contribute to improved food safety and the sustainable use of Greenland’s natural resources.
