Mari Kleist, Pro rector at Ilisimatusarfik – University of Greenland and Head of Institute of Culture, Language & History, has been appointed as Chair of the Greenland Research Council by Naalakkersuisut – The Government of Greenland. She succeeds Mitdlarak Lennert and looks forward to continuing efforts to strengthen Greenland research.
Greenland Research Council is a national and independent administrative body dedicated to promoting and enhancing the development of Greenland research for the benefit of Greenland society. The council operates through two core functions: allocating research funds and advising decision-makers and stakeholders on research professional and research policy matters.
In connection with the appointment, Mari Kleist states:
– I look forward to strengthening the interaction between research and society, ensuring that it remains both relevant and beneficial to the people of Greenland. Research must be shaped and led by those it affects, and I am committed to ensuring that research in Greenland is inclusive and equitable – also through international cooperation. Furthermore, I am eager to continue working toward realizing the political visions and objectives outlined by the Government of Greenland in its research strategy.”
The Greenland Research Council plays a crucial role in distributing national research funds and advising decision-makers and stakeholders on research policy. Additionally, the council promotes Greenland’s participation in international research cooperation and promotes dissemination of research that is meaningful and advantageous to society.
