The Greenland Research Council has awarded three PhD stipends and one postdoctoral stipend. Through these grants, the council supports Greenland’s research capacity building and projects that can contribute with new knowledge to the benefit of society.

The selected research projects are all characterized by scientific excellence and societal relevance for Greenland.
The scholarships go to:
- PhD student Bodil Hoffmeyer, who will study gestational diabetes and risks of pregnancy complications through a national registry study. The project will be carried out at Steno Diabetes Center Greenland; Ilisimatusarfik – University of Greenland, Institute of Nature & Health; and the University of Copenhagen. Read more here
- PhD student Paninnguaq Boassen, who will explore the framework for and meaning of research in Greenland. Paninnguaq will be enrolled at Ilisimatusarfik – University of Greenland, Institute of Culture, Language & History. Interview with Paninnguaq
- PhD student Sara Elleskov, who will research and challenge how Inuit stories and culture have been studied through the Qilakitsoq mummies in biological, anthropological and archaeological research. Granting of PhD and postdoctoral stipends is a central part of the Greenland Research Council’s work to strengthen Greenland’s research environments and promote research education.
– This year’s stipends benefit not only the individual research talents but also Greenland as a whole, as the projects lay the foundation for new knowledge and value creation during a time of rapid change says Lorenz Meire, Acting Chair of the Greenland Research Council.
Greenland Research Council received a total of 17 applications at the latest application round for the PhD and postdoctoral stipends. The submitted applications had a total budget of just over DKK 38 million.
The number of female applicants was 13, while there were 4 male applicants.
