The council
Greenland Research Council is a national and independent administrative body whose purpose is to promote and strengthen the development of Greenland research for the benefit of society. The council funds research and advise decision-makers and stakeholders on research professional and research policy matters. The council also works to promote Greenland participation in international research collaboration and strengthening research dissemination.
The council’s mandate is Inatsisartut Act no. 5 of 29 November 2013 on research advising and granting of research funds.
Greenland Research Council consists of eight members who are appointed by Naalakkersuisut – The Government of Greenland for a three-year period through nominations from Greenland research and innovation centers. The members of the Greenland Research Council are appointed in their personal capacity and thus do not represent institutions or special interests. The chair of the council is Mitdlarak Lennert.
The secretariat supports the council’s work with research funding, international cooperation, communication, administration, etc.
