Seasonal Glacier Surface Mass Balance Derived with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Allaatigisaq:
The aim of the proposed project is to determine volume changes of a small mountain glacier near Nuuk with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in a very high resolution. The result will be compared with traditional glaciological measurements, and will help to assess small-scale variability of snow and ablation patterns. Accumulation measurements with UAV technology have recently proven to be of sufficient quality, and we therefore expect the project to end with an updated monitoring strategy for a well-established glaciological monitoring site in Greenland implementing new methods.
