Foreign- and Security Policy Opinion Poll in Greenland 2.0

Foreign- and Security Policy Opinion Poll in Greenland 2.0

Researchers: Maria Ackrén, Associate Professor in Political Science and Head of Department for Arctic Social Sciences & Economics; and Rasmus Leander-Nielsen, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Science, Economics & Journalism, Ilisimatusarfik – University of Greenland.

Background, purpose and research question(s):
Nasiffik – Centre for Foreign- and Security Policy at Ilisimatusarfik/University of Greenland conducted the first opinion poll in Greenland regarding foreign- and security policy in the end of 2020, which gave a unique view of what people thought about these issues from a Greenlandic standpoint (see Ackrén and Nielsen, 2021). This was before the COVID-19 pandemic really took its toll and before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The balance of power between the major powers in the world has changed and the situation in the world is therefore looking differently. It is therefore timely to conduct a new survey to receive the latest information and data over what people think in a time of change. The increased interest towards the Arctic and especially Greenland is also a factor to consider. At Nasiffik we like to make continuous surveys around these issues, so we can make comparisons over time and have the latest information regarding these matters.
