Weather Data from Ship Observations in Nuup Kangerlua: Validation and Analysis

Allaatigisaq:
In this project, we aim to process, validate and analyse air temperature, air pressure and wind data which have been collected on a ship.

An Automatic Weather Station (AWS) specifically designed for atmospheric data collection from ships has been purchased, and is currently being installed on the ferry Marie Kartek which travels weekly between Nuuk and Kapisillit.

The data will be scientifically used and analysed to study the temperature, pressure and wind gradients in Nuup Kangerlua on a seasonal scale. In addition to the scientific use, the data will be directly displayed on the ship and provide the crew and the passengers with instantaneous weather information.

Finally, we want to train and educate local people (here the ship crew) and deepen their understanding in the fields of atmospheric data collection and meteorology.
