Metallerne kan v\u00e6re giftige og udg\u00f8re en risiko for organismer i b\u00e5de ferskvands- og havvandsmilj\u00f8et. Metallerne bioakkumuleres, hvilket g\u00f8r, at en r\u00e6kke pattedyr i Gr\u00f8nland kan indeholde meget h\u00f8je koncentrationer af tungmetaller, og n\u00e5r dyrene spises, kan metallerne optages og udg\u00f8re en sundhedsrisiko for mennesker.<\/p>\n<p>I Gr\u00f8nland har minedrift i Maarmorilik, Ivittuut og Mestersvig medf\u00e6rt udsivning af store m\u00e6ngder tungmetaller, hvilket har medf\u00e6rt uhensigtsm\u00e6ssige p\u00e5virkninger af ilj\u00f8et.<\/p>\n<p>Et nyligt studie af Larsen et al. (2018) har vist, at rejeskaller har stort potentiale for at tilbageholde tungmetaller, og dermed minimere udsivning til milj\u00f8et. Rejeskallerne indeholder et polysaccarid (chitin), der i struktur minder meget om cellulose, og er i stand til at absorbere store m\u00e6ngder metaller. Samtidig indeholder rejeskallerne organisk kulstof, som ved nedbrydning kan skabe iltfrie forhold. Dette kan medf\u00f8re at der dannes sulfid (S-), som vil binde sig med metallerne og udf\u00e6lde som et fast stof.<\/p>\n<p>Form\u00e5let med dette projekt er at unders\u00f8ge rejeskallernes kapacitet for binding af tungmetaller i en sulfid bioreaktor.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hvor stor har rejeskaller ved brug i en sulfid bioreaktor?<\/li>\n<li>Hvilken opholdstid vil det kr\u00e6ve at opn\u00e5 en tilstr\u00e6kkelig udf\u00e6ldning\/binding af tungmetaller?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Metoder for inklusion af samfundet og formidling overfor samfundet:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Den gr\u00f8nlandske fiskeindustri vil blive kontaktet b\u00e5de men henblik p\u00e5 at informere om projektet og indg\u00e5 et eventuelt samarbejde.<\/p>\n<p>Resultaterne fra projektet vil blive formidlet ved en popul\u00e6rvidenskabelig artikel i eksempelvis Sermitsiaq eller p\u00e5 videnskab.dk.
