For de bestande, som overvintrer i gr\u00f8nlandske farvande (prim\u00e6rt ynglefugle fra Svalbard, Island og Gr\u00f8nland), er der konstateret store tilbagegange, mens fugle der overvintrer i canadiske farvande klarer sig godt (prim\u00e6rt ynglefugle i Canada og det nordvestlige Gr\u00f8nland). Det tyder p\u00e5, at der er forhold i fuglenes overvintringsomr\u00e5der, som spiller en afg\u00f8rende rolle for lomviens bestandsudvikling. Form\u00e5let med denne ans\u00f8gning er, at belyse disse forhold n\u00e6rmere, ved brug af s\u00e6rlige dataloggere, som g\u00f8r det muligt at sammenligne fuglenes adf\u00e6rd i de to forskellige overvintringsomr\u00e5der.
