Dette volumen forventes at vokse yderligere med fortsatte klimaforandringer, og fjordene og kontinentalsokkelen omkring Gr\u00f8nland er s\u00e5ledes direkte p\u00e5virket af den stigende smeltevandsafstr\u00f8mning. Gr\u00f8nlands kystsystem er kendt for at kunne opretholde en h\u00f8j marin produktion, som danner grundlag for vigtige fiskerier. Det er imidlertid vanskeligt at forudsige, hvordan de marine \u00f8kosystemer vil blive p\u00e5virket af de igangv\u00e6rende klimabetingede \u00e6ndringer, fordi der mangler en detaljeret forst\u00e5else af, hvordan smeltevand fra indlandsisen p\u00e5virker den kystn\u00e6re biogeokemi.<\/p>\n<p>Projektets arbejdshypotese er, at n\u00e6ringsrigt vand bringes til fjordenes overfladelag p\u00e5 grund af unders\u00f8isk smeltevandafstr\u00f8mning i forbindelse med tidevandsgletsjere og turbulens genereret af isbjerge, og at denne proces er afg\u00f8rende for opretholdelsen af en h\u00f8j produktivitet t\u00e6t p\u00e5 store tidevandsgletsjere i Gr\u00f8nland.<\/p>\n<p>Vi vil p\u00e5 baggrund af hydrografiske unders\u00f8gelser (bl.a. temperatur og salt) og forankrede instrumenter med avancerede sensorer kvantificere effekten af gletsjersmeltevand og isbjerge p\u00e5 de faktorer, der g\u00e6lder for produktionen af planteplankton (vertikal opblanding, lys og n\u00e6ringsstoffer) i flere gr\u00f8nlandske fjorde. Projektet vil \u00f8ge vores forst\u00e5else af, hvordan den store smeltevandsafstr\u00f8mning p\u00e5virker det biogeokemiske kredsl\u00f8b i en r\u00e6kke gr\u00f8nlandske fjorde i forskellige kategorier.
