P\u00e5 trods af store fremskridt i inden for lydforskning, er sangens funktion stadig g\u00e5defuld. Forbedret biologging teknik med ultra kompakte datalagre p\u00e5 flashcard \u00e5bner nye d\u00f8re, der kan give indsigt til hidtil ukendte aspekter af havpattedyrs adf\u00e6rd og til deres unders\u00f8iske milj\u00f8. Det er nu muligt at bev\u00e6ge sig fra passive akustiske metoder, hvor man lytter p\u00e5 afstand , til metoderne hvor optageren bliver placeret bogstaveligt talt oven p\u00e5 hvalen og gemmer data i en s\u00e5kaldt arkiverings tag. I denne unders\u00f8gelse vil gr\u00f8nlandshvalernes akustiske adf\u00e6rd blive unders\u00f8gt ved hj\u00e6lp af arkiverings tags som optager og gemmer data i meget h\u00f8j opl\u00f8sning for akustiske data, 3D bev\u00e6gelses og retnings data samt dybde data. Denne metode muligg\u00f8r en detaljeret beskrivelse af omgivende st\u00f8jniveau og lyd produktion af hvalen. Data fra projektet bruges til at fastsl\u00e5 hvilken rolle sang har i seksuel adf\u00e6rd og fouragering samt hvordan sangen varierer mellem forskellige individer.
