De fleste steder i Gr\u00f8nland er arten imidlertid i kraftig tilbagegang og det der afg\u00f8rende at finde frem til de konkrete \u00e5rsager til dette, s\u00e5fremt der ogs\u00e5 i fremtiden skal v\u00e6re adgang til denne ressource. Et af de vigtigste m\u00e5l for koloniernes trivsel er fuglenes ynglesucces, men GN (Gr\u00f8nlands Naturinstitut) har i praksis ikke mulighed for at indsamle disse oplysninger, idet den traditionelle metode kr\u00e6ver meget lange ophold i kolonierne. GN har midlertidig udviklet en ny metode, hvor det ved hj\u00e6lp at automatisere time-lapse kameraer og s\u00e6rlige billedanalyser, er muligt at bestemme lomviernes ynglesucces. Det vil i praksis sige, at fuglenes ynglesucces kan overv\u00e5ges \u00e5rligt p\u00e5 en \u00f8konomisk og logistisk meget overkommelig m\u00e5de. Det kr\u00e6ver blot et enkelt kortvarigt bes\u00f8g hvert andet \u00e5r i den p\u00e5g\u00e6ldende koloni i forbindelse med udskiftning af batterier og hukommelseskort.<\/p>\n<p>Metoden til bestemmelse af lomviernes ynglesucces er nu testet p\u00e5 i alt 4 billedserier fra to forskellige lokaliteter i Gr\u00f8nland, med et meget positivt tal.
