{"id":9317,"date":"2023-05-17T11:58:14","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T14:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nis.gl\/greenland-research-council-announces-8-new-research-promotion-grants-totaling-dkk-1-2-million\/"},"modified":"2023-05-18T17:05:22","modified_gmt":"2023-05-18T20:05:22","slug":"greenland-research-council-announces-8-new-research-promotion-grants-totaling-dkk-1-2-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nis.gl\/en\/greenland-research-council-announces-8-new-research-promotion-grants-totaling-dkk-1-2-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenland Research Council announces 8 new Research Promotion Grants totaling DKK 1.2 million"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"9317\" class=\"elementor elementor-9317 elementor-9292\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ec1bf93 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ec1bf93\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-26645a6 elementor-widget-mobile__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"26645a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Greenland Research Council has awarded funding for 8 research groups through the Research Promotion Grants Program, a program that aims to strengthen community-centered and transdisciplinary research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Published 17 May 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The 8 awardees will pursue ambitious research that address a diverse array of topics such as the underlying causes of phenotypic plasticity in polar cod, strength-based approaches to suicide prevention, and how nutrient and carbon runoff from land to fjord can help us predict the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">&#8211; It is always a very special occasion when we announce the Research Promotion Grant recipients because in this program, we see so many excellent research initiatives that contribute to realizing and solving the potentials and challenges we face as a society, says chairman of the Greenland Research Council Josephine Nymand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nis.gl\/en\/projects\/project-bank\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #005058; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; text-decoration: underline;\">Read about all the projects here.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><br \/>\n<strong>Key figures of the Research Promotion Grants Program 2023<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">By the application deadline, on 1 March 2023, the council had received 24 applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The total budget for all applications was just below DKK 11.6 million, of which researchers applied for support from the Research Promotion Program totaling DKK 3.4 million with a funding limit of DKK 250,000 per application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The number of female applicants was 11, and 4 grants were awarded to women which gives a success rate of 36 %. For male applicants, the success rate is 31% with 13 applications and 4 grants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><br \/>\n<strong>Focus on local anchoring of research and multi-partner cooperation<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Greenland Research Council stated in the 2023 call for Research Promotion Grant proposals, that the council is working to promote community-centered research that contributes to capacity building in Greenland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">&#8211; Greenland Research Council does a great deal of work to ensure that the research carried out in the country derives from local needs and research priorities. That is why we place high demands on projects regarding social responsibility, ethical considerations, capacity building, and not least local cooperation and presence, says chair of the Greenland Research Council Josephine Nymand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">She adds:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8211; It is also with great pleasure that we are awarding 3 relatively larger grants of DKK 250,000 each, supporting projects that are carried out in cooperation between several different institutions and partners.
