Through these grants, the council supports Greenland&#8217;s research capacity building and projects that can contribute with new knowledge to the benefit of society.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e979bec elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e979bec\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Published 16 January 2025<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dd5e128 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dd5e128\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The selected research projects are all characterized by scientific excellence and societal relevance for Greenland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The scholarships go to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>PhD student Bodil Hoffmeyer<\/strong>, who will study gestational diabetes and risks of pregnancy complications through a national registry study. The project will be carried out at Steno Diabetes Center Greenland; Ilisimatusarfik &#8211; University of Greenland, Institute of Nature &amp; Health; and the University of Copenhagen. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #005058;\"><a style=\"color: #005058; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nis.gl\/en\/projekt\/hypertensive-disorders-of-pregnancy-gestational-diabetes-and-the-risk-of-adverse-pregnancy-outcomes-in-greenland-a-nationwide-study\/\">Read more here<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>PhD student Paninnguaq Boassen<\/strong>, who will explore the framework for and meaning of research in Greenland. Paninnguaq will be enrolled at Ilisimatusarfik &#8211; University of Greenland, Institute of Culture, Language &amp; History. <a href=\"https:\/\/nis.gl\/en\/case-spaces-of-possibility-and-potentiality-in-the-research-community-in-kalaallit-nunaat-greenland\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #005058;\">Interview with Paninnguaq<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>PhD student Sara Elleskov<\/strong>, who will research and challenge how Inuit stories and culture have been studied through the Qilakitsoq mummies in biological, anthropological and archaeological research. The fellow will be enrolled at Ilisimatusarfik, Department of Culture, Language &amp; History. <a href=\"https:\/\/nis.gl\/en\/projekt\/qilakitsormiut-the-research-and-perception-of-historical-human-remains-in-greenland-studied-through-the-lens-of-the-research-and-dissemination-of-the-mummified-people-of-qilakitsoq\/\"><span style=\"color: #005058;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Read more here<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Postdoc Sascha Schi\u00f8tt<\/strong> at Pinngortitaleriffik, who will study the role of plankton in the ecosystem of Ilulissat Icefjord. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #005058;\"><a style=\"color: #005058; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nis.gl\/en\/case-the-role-of-plankton-in-the-ecosystem-of-ilulissat-icefjord\/\">Interview with Sascha<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Granting of PhD and postdoctoral stipends is a central part of the Greenland Research Council&#8217;s work to strengthen Greenland&#8217;s research environments\u00a0 and promote research education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">&#8211; This year\u2019s stipends benefit not only the individual research talents but also Greenland as a whole, as the projects lay the foundation for new knowledge and value creation during a time of rapid change says Lorenz Meire, Acting Chair of the Greenland Research Council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Greenland Research Council received a total of 17 applications at the latest application round for the PhD and postdoctoral stipends<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">.
