Permafrosten har stor betydning for stabiliteten af fjeldskr\u00e5ninger og l\u00f8se aflejringer. Jord- og fjeldtemperaturer under frysepunktet for\u00e5rsager isdannelser stabiliserer spr\u00e6kker, sedimenter og l\u00f8st materiale, hvorved styrken af undergrunden \u00f8ges. Set i lyset af klimaforandringer, vil stigende temperaturer og en reduktion i permafrostens udbreddelse for\u00e5rsage smeltning af isen i fjeldspr\u00e6kker og l\u00f8se aflejringer, hvilket kan for\u00e5rsage destabilisering af fjeldsider og udg\u00f8re ne risiko for infrastruktur. I de fleste urbaniserede bjergomr\u00e5der verden over, bliver en vurdering af udbredelsen af fjeldpermafrost inkluderet i risikovurderinger, hvilket hj\u00e6lper til at forst\u00e5 de processer som leder til destabilisering, og forebygge afledte skader p\u00e5 byggeri og infrastruktur. Dette aspekt af risikovurdering implementeres dog typisk ikke i Gr\u00f8nland, ogs\u00e5 selvom fjelde og fjeldsk\u00e5ninger er vigtige elementer i bybilledet i mange byer og bygder, og tidligere har v\u00e6ret skyld i naturkatastrofer. Der er en akut mangel p\u00e5 in-situ data, og eksisterende regionale permafrostmodeller har en grov opl\u00f8sning, der er ude af stand til p\u00e5 fornuftig vis at repr\u00e6sentere den store rumlige variation i stejlt terr\u00e6n, hvilket netop karakteriserer gr\u00f8nlandske fjelde. Som et resultat heraf overvejes permafrost sj\u00e6ldent af interessenter i deres risikovurderinger. For at afhj\u00e6lpe dette problem, lancerede Arctic DTU i 2020 projektet TEMPRA (TEMPerature monitioring of Rockwalls in the Arctic), et indledende studie i Sisimiut med fokus p\u00e5 at udvikle en generel procedure for kortl\u00e6gning af permafrost med anvendelighed overalt i Gr\u00f8nland. Med n\u00e6rv\u00e6rende projekt Siku Aajuitsoq, vil vi p\u00e5 basis af erfaringerne fra TEMPRA etablere et regionalt moniteringsnetv\u00e6rk for permafrost i fjeldskr\u00e5ninger i SisimiutKangerlussuaq omr\u00e5det og etablere en statistisk model for permafrostens regionale udbredelse og sensitivitet. Qeqqata Kommunia forventer i de kommende \u00e5r en stor v\u00e6kst i trafik og infrastrukturudbygning i omr\u00e5det takket v\u00e6re anl\u00e6ggelsen af den f\u00f8rste regionale vejforbindelse i Gr\u00f8nland. Denne forventes at tiltr\u00e6kke mere turisme bla. pga af den \u00f8gede tilg\u00e6ngelighed til UNESCOs verdensarvsomr\u00e5det Aasivissuit-Nipisat. Viden om Permafrost er afg\u00f8rende for en sikker udbygning af infrastruktur i omr\u00e5det og den generelle f\u00e6rdsel, samt for indsatsen med bevarelse af kulturarven i verdensarvsomr\u00e5det. Transektet fra Sisimiut til Kangerlussuaq omfatter en klimatisk fra kyst- til fastlandsklima, samt en bred variation i topografiske forhold sp\u00e6ndende fra egentlige alpine omr\u00e5der til bl\u00f8de bakker.
