Narhvalens lange, snoede st\u00f8dtand vokser i takt med, at hvalen bliver \u00e6ldre og er som s\u00e5dan en tidsserie, der str\u00e6kker sig gennem hvalens leve\u00e5r. Tanden bygges op af lag, hvor hvert lag repr\u00e6senterer et \u00e5r. St\u00f8dt\u00e6nderne, der vil indg\u00e5 i dette projekt, er indsamlet fra den gr\u00f8nlandske fangst af narhvaler i b\u00e5de \u00d8st- og Vestgr\u00f8nland og repr\u00e6senterer en tidsserie fra starten af 1940\u2019erne frem til 2017. Gennem en non\u00addestruktiv XRF-scanning af t\u00e6nderne kan vi registrere grundstof-koncentrationerne for hvert lag, eller \u00e5r, gennem hvalens liv. Vores hypotese er, at de milj\u00f8m\u00e6ssige forandringer i Gr\u00f8nland, som er et resultat af klima\u00e6ndringerne, bliver lagret i narhvalernes t\u00e6nder, som s\u00e5ledes fungerer som et helt unikt \u2018klimaarkiv\u2019. Tanden er ligeledes et arkiv for den grundstofsammens\u00e6tning, som findes i det omr\u00e5de, hvor hvalen befinder sig. Form\u00e5let med dette projekt er 1) at dokumentere de milj\u00f8m\u00e6ssige forandringer, der sker i havet i Arktis gennem XAF-analyser af grundstofsammens\u00e6tningen i narhvalt\u00e6nder og 2) at unders\u00f8ge om grundstofsammens\u00e6tningen kan bruges som et m\u00e5l for populationsstruktur af narhvaler i Gr\u00f8nland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metoder for inklusion af samfundet og formidling overfor samfundet:<\/strong><br \/>\nNarhvaler har stor kulturel betydning for befolkningen i Gr\u00f8nland og der er i Gr\u00f8nland derfor interesse for ny viden om narhvaler. Narhvalt\u00e6nderne, der indg\u00e5r i projektet, er indsamlet fra den gr\u00f8nlandske fangst af narhvaler i samarbejde med gr\u00f8nlandske fangere. Vi vil formidle alle projektets faser gennem video, billeder, figurer og tekst og sammens\u00e6tte dette til en formidlingsvideo, der vil blive lagt op p\u00e5 Gr\u00f8nlands Naturinstituts hjemmeside. Videoen vil best\u00e5 af levende og still-billeder af pr\u00f8vetagning og XRF-scanning af t\u00e6nder p\u00e5 SNM samt af den efterf\u00f8lgende dataanalyse. Resultater pr\u00e6senteres i form af tekst, figurer og speak i videoen.
