Fjorden er hjemsted for en genetisk distinkt population af rings\u00e6ler og store hellefisk, arter der er h\u00f8jt v\u00e6rdsat af lokale fiskere og fangere. P\u00e5 trods af fjordens bem\u00e6rkelsesv\u00e6rdige biodiversitet er de grundl\u00e6ggende \u00f8kologiske processer og milj\u00f8parametre, der opretholder \u00f8kosystemet, d\u00e5rligt forst\u00e5et, hvilket skyldes fjordens utilg\u00e6ngelige forhold.<\/p>\n<p>Dette postdoc-projekt sigter mod at udfylde denne videnskl\u00f8ft ved at fokusere p\u00e5 bunden af f\u00f8dek\u00e6den \u2013 specifikt planktonpopulationer og deres afg\u00f8rende rolle i fjordens \u00f8kosystem. Projektet vil bygge videre p\u00e5 resultaterne fra et ph.d.-projekt, som fokuserede p\u00e5 de \u00f8verste led af f\u00f8dek\u00e6den i Ilulissat Isfjords \u00f8kosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Gennem s\u00e6sonbestemte pr\u00f8vetagninger af phytoplankton og zooplankton vil projektet unders\u00f8ge, hvordan disse grundl\u00e6ggende organismer underst\u00f8tter n\u00f8glearter som fisk og s\u00e6ler i fjorden. Der vil ogs\u00e5 blive indsamlet pr\u00f8ver af st\u00f8rre zooplankton ved hj\u00e6lp af rings\u00e6ler og fjeld\u00f8rred som &#8220;biologiske v\u00e6rkt\u00f8jer&#8221; til at skaffe pr\u00f8ver, s\u00e5som mysider og fiskelarver, som ellers er sv\u00e6re at indsamle under de nuv\u00e6rende forhold i fjorden. Ved at analysere b\u00e5de maveindholdet fra disse dyr og indsamlede planktonpr\u00f8ver, har projektet til form\u00e5l at identificere n\u00f8glearter i den lokale f\u00f8dek\u00e6de og vurdere fjordsystemets biologiske produktivitet. Resultaterne fra denne unders\u00f8gelse vil i v\u00e6sentlig grad forbedre vores forst\u00e5else af de \u00f8kologiske processer, der underst\u00f8tter fjordens rige biodiversitet. Derudover vil forskningen levere v\u00e6rdifulde data til forvaltningen af vigtige arter som rings\u00e6l, hellefisk og fjeld\u00f8rred, is\u00e6r i lyset af klimaforandringer.
